Description
This previously unpublished flute sonata by Alan Ridout was originally written in 1987 for flute and harp. After the composer’s death in 1996 the manuscript was placed in the archives of Ampleforth Abbey where it lay undiscovered until its publication in this edition. The original harp part has been revised for piano to bring it to a wider audience, but it remains equally playable for harp. With sparkling outer movements flanking a middle movement of exquisite beauty and simplicity, this work is a valuable addition to the 20th century flute sonata repertoire. Suitable for intermediate to advanced players. Recorded piano accompaniment and separate harp part available to download.
