Description
Reading in Rhythm is step by step approach to learning to read notes on a stringed instrument. Volume 1 starts with open strings, and then progresses toward building tetrachords on all strings. These four note tetrachords (do re me fa, AND sol la ti do) are the building blocks of major scales. Once the student has been introduced to tetrachords on open strings, the book focuses on D Major and G Major; keys that are introduced in beginning orchestra and solo repertoire. These are all original compositions so the student is truly learning to sight read one step at a time. All of the exercises are 16 measures in length and focussed on specific rhythmic and pitch goals giving the student plenty of practice to sharpen their reading skills on a daily basis. The rhythms progress from quarter notes and quarter rests to adding rhythms using half notes, and eighth notes. Volume one keeps the rhythms simple as they are starting to strengthen pitch awareness and pitch recognition speed. Other volumes increase the complexity of rhythms.
