Hymne au Soleil (“Hymn to the Sun”) is suffused with impressionism’s parallel chords, and it musically mirrors the various words of its text, an excerpt from an exotic play by Casimir Delavigne (1793–1843). This new edition gives English text as a “prosodic” translation of the original French. This permits performance of the work in English with proper phrasing of both the music and the text.
