Franz Wohlfahrt, who was a violin student of the great violinist-concertmaster, Ferdinand David, wrote in the preface to this method book, that there were few violin-instruction books that truly were designed for children. What is wonderful about this early-level instructional book it entirely composed to be learned…beginning with the most basic of exercises using open strings, as duets to be played with the teacher!
The student is making duet or chamber music right from the very first lesson! This gives a great sense of accomplishment and pride to the beginner, and raises their confidence level, too!
Wohlfahrt also notes that many teachers don't insist on the correct positioning or use of the small (pinkie) finger of the small student. This method enables the teacher and student to use the pinkie and thus helps to establish the best positioning of the hands and fingers, which is the natural result of having the fourth finger in the correct playing position right from the early stages of development.
