Description
James Whitbourn's “Beatus Vir” (Blessed is the man who fears the Lord) is here set for SSATB choir. With long, supporting lines are sung by the lower voices, the soprano 1 & 2 weave mellismatic lines over the top in a chant-like style. Composer Whitbourn is known for his rich harmonies and shifting tonal centers and this new work is true to this style.
Commissioned for the Choir of St Matthews Church, Northampton. First performed on St Matthew's Day, 21 September 2017, conducted by Justin Miller.
