Description
Made popular by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s Grammy winning performance in 1959, Peter Wilhousky’s famous arrangement of Battle Hymn of the Republic has remained a staple to this day. Thanks to widespread popularity, six different versions for band, orchestra, and various choral voicings were produced, allowing this quintessential symbol of American patriotism to be performed throughout the nation by any combination of ensemble. Though these versions have always been compatible with one another, never before have they blended so effortlessly thanks to editor Justin P. Tokke’s careful revisions. In creating this Critical Edition for Orchestra, careful attention has been paid to Wilhousky’s original stylistic choices while also addressing misprints. The arrangement now features a new full score, re-engraved parts, and modern necessities including measure numbers and rehearsal marks that match the band version (J763), also available from Carl Fischer, to ensure complete ensemble compatibility in mass performance. This exciting edition hopes to inspire future collaboration and new performance opportunities
