Description

The first movement of Pederson’s powerful five movement work, A Vision Unfolding. This gospel style-inspired piece, appropriate for both sacred and secular settings, provides a powerful introduction to themes of justice and trial/tribulation.

The text invites God’s spirit to reach down and lift us up—lift us out of the pit, out of the darkness, and lift us to the light…lift us up to justice and wholeness. The rise and fall of the music throughout the piece reflects the text—reaching down, and lifting up. The repetition of the text and melody almost becomes mantra-like, washing over the listener as the piece builds to its dramatic conclusion.
